Some big things have been happening around campus...

We've got some fun surprises for the start of school in the fall! Can you notice anything different about our blacktop and ball courts in these photos? We can't wait for our students to be back on campus in the fall to see and test out the new improvements around campus!

What are Wildflower Open Classroom's 8 guiding principles?

We wanted to take a moment to tell you about the core values that drive our school! In its initial creation, the founding group of Wildflower Open Classroom identified 8 values that would serve as guiding principles for all actions and decisions made by our Wildflower community as a whole. These principles work
and stand as the foundation of our community!

🌸 Joy & Adventure in Learning means that part of the excitement of learning is the challenge of risk-taking, where both failures and successes contribute to personal and academic growth!

🌼 Stewardship means being the example you wish to see as we care for people, our environment, and our community with the joint goal of prosperity and success. We teach and practice eco-awareness and connectivity to our planet!

🌹Community means belonging to a group that works together and has empathy, compassion, and consideration for each other. It means feeling part of the whole and working for the good of the whole!

🪻Being Respectful means creating a safe space where community members listen and speak with care, openness, and compassion. Our community is always open to differences and willing to see situations from others' viewpoints, learning from each other as we work toward shared solutions!

🌺 Integrity means remaining true to our school philosophy while standing up for the vision and intent of our school as we work towards our goals!

💐 Personal Responsibility means taking the initiative to care four our community. Our ongoing goal is to have a community made up of self-motivated, accountable individuals taking pride in their work!

🪷 Collaboration means a learning community where all voices from our students, teachers, parents, staff, administration, and board are heard!

🌷 Positive Communication & Honesty means discussing issues where the common goal is resolution and satisfaction for all parties. We strive to acknowledge the efforts of others and are willing to engage in conversations of all types!

Our summer camp kids have been out adventuring all summer! 🌀🌞🫧

From sunny days spent swimming in the creek to visiting some animal friends, our summer camp kiddos have been up to all sorts of fun! Each week, our summer camp cycles through a different theme with different activities and fields trips! The other week, our summer camp had their Forest Week, where they spent lots of time having fun in the sun and learning about the world around them! Last week was Cooking Week, where they have spent time learning how to make all sorts of delicious snacks and even had the chance to visit the neighboring gardens next door at Little Red Hen! And this week is Special Interest Week! Our summer camp shows how learning and fun go hand-in-hand!

Campus has been much quieter during summer break! ☀️🏖️🌊

We miss seeing so many smiling faces first thing in the morning and having classrooms full of hard workers throughout the day! We hope that each and every one of our students has had an absolute blast during summer break so far! We can't wait to hear all about your Summer adventures in the Fall! Campus misses you and can't wait to have you back in August!

But don't worry! Campus hasn't completely shut down! We've still got our hardworking teachers and office staff gearing up for the new school year and our summer camp, who have been up to so much fun! Stayed tuned to see what they've been up to!

What makes Wildflower Open Classroom unique? We wanted to take a moment to talk about the foundations of our philosophies and the pillars that make us who we are! Our 6 pillars are a set of guidelines that help shape the curriculum of our classrooms, the success of our school, and the overall growth of our students!

🌸 A Constructivist approach to learning, where students actively build their own knowledge rather than passively absorbing concepts!

🪻The Webbing Way describes a thematic based approach to learning in which students' overall education is centered around a specific theme and teachers collaborate to form connections!

🌹Ownership & Personal Responsibility, where students are taught to take charge of completing their assignments alongside supportive accountability from teachers!

🌼 The Whole Child pillar describes a socio-emotional approach to learning where a variety of diverse teaching techniques are used to reach different learning styles!

🌺 Community of Learners, where learning is conducted through multi-grade classrooms, classroom mixers, big buddies (or student mentors), community co-oping, and collaborative planning among teachers!

🌷The Bigger Picture works to connect our students' learning to their larger communities and the world around them!

Closing out the school year Wildflower style! 🌼☀️🎉

We had an awesome last day of school celebrating our Wildflower community! As tradition goes, we had our annual end of school BBQ along with some water slides and fun outdoor activities! We also had an end of year attendance drawing, where five lucky winners won all day passes to Terrain Park Climbing. These students were recognized for their perfect attendance record over the past couple weeks! We greatly appreciate Terrain Park Climbing for giving our students this opportunity! It was a great end to another amazing school year!

Thank you to all the teachers, volunteers, staff, parents, and students who made this year so successful! We hope you have a wonderful summer!

Visits from Resolute Therapy dogs always brighten our days! 🐾

On Mondays and Fridays, Wildflower gets some pretty special visitors! Our students absolutely love when our furry friends over at Resolute Dog Training stop by to say hello! Seeing Marley, Winston, and Daisy is something that our students look forward to each week! Whether they’re stopping by to listen to our amazing readers, show off their tricks, or simply stopping by to greet students, our classrooms are always filled with joy when they visit! Thank you to our amazing friends over at Resolute Dog Training! We appreciate you and your time spent stopping by our classrooms!

All throughout the month of May, the wonderful Daycamp Coffee has been displaying our students' mixed media artwork all around their cafe! And yesterday, they hosted an art reception to celebrate our students' creativity and imagination! We had such a nice evening collaborating with Daycamp and seeing some Wildflower friends!

From TK through 8th grade, our students created artwork centered around a picnic theme! Our 4th and 5th graders created some berry sweet pies and our WOCAP 6th, 7th, and 8th graders created some sour citrus alongside our TK's marching ants! Our 2nd and 3rd graders created "Scooby-Doo" sandwiches using materials they found around campus and our Kinder and 1st grade students weaved some picnic baskets! Our students have loved exploring their classroom themes through art and sharing their creations with the Chico community!

And of course, our community wouldn't be what it is without the energy, time, and care of our parent and community volunteers! We wanted to give a huge shoutout to each and every one of our amazing volunteers that worked tirelessly to make sure our Wildflower Music Fest turned out to be the best day ever! We especially want to thank Colleen, Andy, and the entire Wildflower Music Festival committee for making this day so magical! Our Wildflower community getting together and collaborating once again!

Every year in spring, Wildflower Open Classroom puts together our Spring Performance! At our Spring Performances, each of our classes have had the opportunity to participate and perform for our Wildflower family and community! Every year, the performance is centered around a specific theme, and this year's theme was Nature!

This year, our Spring Performance started off with a pledge to the Earth. Then, every class had the chance to showcase what they have been learning in their classrooms through a song, haiku, or spoken word performance! And to finish off the performance, all of our students sang together for one final song! We love seeing these beautiful moments our students create together!

Some fun in the sun has been happening around campus lately! Our Girls on the Run team has been hard at work and having a blast!

Girls on the Run is a running program for 3rd-5th grade girls, but it is also so much more! It is a program that develops community and helps girls become more confident and empowered! This program helps them find their bold heart, embrace their "I Can" power, and gives them the tools to navigate through life's challenges! The team meets twice a week with each practice consisting of running training paired with socio-emotional lessons. The season culminates in a 5K event as well as each team completing a community action project!

We greatly appreciate Coach Sammie and our amazing community members for volunteering their time to give these runners the most amazing and empowering experience! Your hard work truly makes our Wildflower community shine! Keep up the great teamwork girls!
